Minnesota School of Business staff and students put some muscle into their volunteer efforts at Lake George recently. Ten tons of effort, to be exact.
In partnership with the city of St. Cloud, 21 volunteers weeded flower beds, grouted the paver sidewalks, restored trails and, yes, moved ten tons of rock along the shoreline of Lake George.
Parks and Recreation Director Scott Zlotnik was impressed. “They did a great job,” he said. “We’d like to have them back.”
The volunteers felt that the project was more than worthwhile.
Student Accounts Representative Nick Tapio was gratified that there was “appreciation from the people who use Lake George regularly.” He said you could see it in the smiles on their faces.
Carrie Tannehill, a staff librarian, felt that the best part of the day was “getting to know the students and staff on my crew and working together as a team.”
The community efforts at Lake George were part of MSB Gives Back Day, the college’s sixth annual community service day, which underscores the school’s philosophy and commitment to giving back to the community by having students take an active role in creating and implementing projects that go beyond classroom learning.

Giving back to the community sure shows the Minnesota School of Business lives up to its “We Care” mission statement.
When we all work together we can move mountains! It was a satisfying day all around.
Great work everyone!!
