Next week we’re launching a healthy living campaign at MSB–Lakeville. This isn’t a diet, or a single focus, it’s an all-encompassing look at our lives to make the changes that allow us to live the life we want without limits. You’ll be able to follow our progress through these blogs, better yet, by joining with us in this journey!
I’m Craig Wilson, Accounting Program Chair. I’ve personally realized that my life is beginning to be smaller because I have not lived a healthy lifestyle. I don’t want that to continue for me. I can’t make time stand still, but I can make choices that give the opportunity to live a larger life, giving me the chance to achieve my dreams.
What are my dreams? To go for walks with my dear wife Holly when we’re eighty -five, holding her hand with head held high and with a straight back; to go snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef; to carry my grandchildren on my shoulders; to take the mule ride down the Grand Canyon. I could go on, but you get the point.
We’re not given any guarantees about our life and health, but we do make choices that impact our health either for good or ill. I want to commit to making choices for the good of my health. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away I was a distance runner. I lived a conscientiously healthy lifestyle. I’m using an old newspaper photo as a unique twist on the “before and after” pictures.
My “after” picture not only shows me as I am now, but also shows my granddaughter Zoe. She’s one of the people I want to be able to keep up with and live life to the fullest together. My plan is to be able to unveil my “after-after” picture on October 1st.
Right now we have ten people committed to this sojourn. Follow us, support us – better yet, join us!!

I am looking forward to being a charter member of the “Life without Limits” group — Thanks to you Craig, for taking the initiative to start this. Over the last 2 – 3 years, I have been on my own weight loss journey and dropped over 130 pounds and went from a size 24 to a size 12/14 — or to put it in MSB terms, from size 2X scrubs to size medium. (maybe I will bring my “fat jeans” to our meeting next week to inspire us.) But I never quite lost those last 10 to 15 pounds, I’ve still got some pudge around the middle that I am sure is not healthy, and lately I’ve noticed more chocolate and goodies creeping into my diet and less exercise fitting into my life. So my goal is to get rid of those last few pounds and stop the slide down the slippery slope — I know how easy it is to get into habits that cause the weight to creep back on. I refuse to go back to the “old” me. I want to live to be very very old and be very fesity and and very healthy. I may never retire!
Welcome aboard!! Your story is amazing already. I love the scrubs analogy. I drove past Brunswick and thought about how many bowling balls I have to lose!!
Very inspiring!

Craig,
Your granddaughter Zoe is so cute in the picture. Thanks for sharing your great story and inspiring me to re-think about losing weight. This is a wake-up call for me to start now.
I couldn’t believe what I was reading! This is my passion encouraging others to grow personally and providing them with proven resources. Check out the Mental Fitness Challenge because your physical health is connected with the way you think and the choices you make. I am putting together a Mental Fitness Challenge Group and would love to MSB staff and students join me. Never stop growing and learning! Watch the short video on the Mental Fitness Challenge at http://www.mental-fitness-challenge.com Live the life you’ve always wanted because you are worth it.
Thanks for your support Rich! We’re starting to get ready to lauch a campaign for students too. We think it would be more effective if it were student run. We’ll keep you posted. Plus watch our week 2 blog on Friday!
I too am looking forward to being a member of “Life without Limits.” I have seen my life change over the last 7 years, from college athlete, to student, to grad student, to teacher, to manager. I love my job and my coworkers, but since I left the classroom, my daily activity level has significantly decreases. It saddens me to think that I have allowed my job to impact my health. I want to be more active, but find myself too tired to be active. If I can discipline myself to add daily activity back into my lifestyle and improve my eating habits, I know I will have more energy to do the things I love, and having the motivation of friends and coworkers might just be the ticket to move me forward!
I am excited to be a part of this great team! Life balance is a never-ending quest and it is fun to be on the path with such great leaders on campus. I am training for a half marathon for World Vision on September 22, raising funds to bring fresh water supplies to a small village of amazing people in Africa. I am looking forward to learning, growing and changing with all of you.
