“It feels good to be recognized,” Jennifer May, Director of Financial Aid at the St. Cloud campus, admitted after winning a Minnesota Association Financial Aid Administrators award for committee work

at the spring conference. But in typical fashion, May also demurred, “MAFAA is an organization driven by its membership.” Everyone is committed toward its mission, she emphasizes.

The committee award recognizes volunteerism above and beyond the usual effort. May has served for nine years in the organization, winning a total of three awards. She has been a part of the development, loan issues and government issues committees.

May says that the best part of the MAFAA conferences is the professional development opportunities. “It’s good for the industry,” she states. “I try to learn from others to bring back as best practices.”

According to its website, (www.mafaa.org) MAFAA’s mission is “to provide training, research, information, expertise and advocacy in support of the timely, accurate, and ethical delivery of financial aid funds to Minnesota students.” In addition, it is “committed to the principle that no one should be denied access to higher education for financial reasons.”

May lives out this mission daily as Director of Financial Aid on campus and leads others by example, as well.
