MSB staffers pack lunches at CAER for school-aged kids
Six Minnesota School of Business staff members traded half of a work day for packing meals aimed at feeding school-aged kids at CAER Food shelf.
“More than 1 in 4 children in our community receive free or reduced lunches,” said CAER
Executive Director Jenny Gray. “So when school gets let out, many of these kids who would normally receive a free or very inexpensive lunch go hungry.”
The meal packs, which CAER has named kidz kitz, lessens the financial burden on struggling families who, with school out and their kids at home, need to find inexpensive
food to replace the free or reduced lunches their kids were receiving.
The MSB group packed more than 250 kidz kitz during their volunteer shift at CAER.
They filled the kits with cereal, soup, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter crackers, canned fruit and vegetables, granola bars, goldfish and even some Girl Scout cookies.
According to MSB staffer Michelle Champagne, thoughtful planning by CAER went into organizing the kidz kitz with each kit containing enough food for 10 meals.
“It’s a comfort knowing that CAER is right here in our local community,” said
Champagne. “They do an amazing job of helping our community with a variety of food options.”
