For many people with varying disabilities and ailments, a therapy dog is necessity.
Willow Wiggins’ Introduction to Veterinary Technology class played an integral role in helping get these in-demand animals ready for their calling recently.
Wiggins and a class of nine Minnesota School of Business-Plymouth students took part and assisted in one of several training sessions for these dogs at Cloud Nine Dog Training in Hopkins.
The students performed distraction techniques discussed in class, and encountered by therapy dogs on a daily basis. The exercises were meant to help prepare the animals for a mock Delta therapy dog exam.
“The students were able to use skills learned in the classroom to encourage the concept of the human animal bond, utilize their professional interpersonal and public relation skills and examine the role a CVT can play in assisting owners with possible solutions to behavior problems,” Wiggins said.
Cloud Nine opened in 2000 and has offered dog training classes in the areas of agility, rally O, therapy, behavior, tricks/freestyle and small dog play group.
