DECA Makes an Impact on Lupus Awareness

On Saturday, six Minnesota School of Business – Elk River DECA students spent their weekend morning volunteering for the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota’s 5K Walk/Run for Hope in Plymouth’s French Regional Park.

Catherine Skinner, Kamie Jensen, Leslie Nicol, Eric Bratland, Maggie Scheel, Thomas Monson, Kelly Flannery

The students were responsible for managing the registration booths, silent auction items, and taking pictures throughout the event.

“They were the first ones there and the last ones to leave,” said DECA Advisor Leslie Nicol.  “It was rewarding to see them take initiative, manage multiple projects at once, and work with the runners first hand.”

This 5K is the first in a series of three that will take place in Minnesota with the other two events being hosted in Rochester and Duluth later this month. Each event is designed to raise funds for research and bring awareness to the cause.
