MSB Lakeville Accounting Chair Appointed to National DECA’s Advisory Council

Craig Wilson, Accounting Program Chair at Minnesota School of Business Lakeville, was recently appointed to the National DECA’s Advisory Council. He will be responsible for reviewing the high school accounting and finance events to ensure they prepare students for rigors of college coursework. Craig is the DECA advisor for MSB Lakeville and also serves on the Minnesota Collegiate DECA Board of Directors.

This Fall MSB Lakeville will be hosting sub-district events for four area high school DECA teams, Lakeville North, Burnsville, Northfield, and Rosemount. The sub-districts will help the students prepare for their upcoming District competitions. In total over 350 students will participate in these events.

Last year was the inaugural season for MSB Lakeville’s DECA team. They had a tremendous first year with all eight of their members placing in the top six at the state competition. Members placed first, third and fourth in Accounting, and second in Financial Statement Analysis and Marketing Management. They had top six finishes in Business Ethics, Business to Business Marketing and Sales Management Meeting categories. The Financial Statement Analysis team of Christine Drentlaw and Sara Ptacek finished in the top six at the International Competition!

This year’s team has nearly doubled to 15 and is gearing up for its first competition at MSB Elk River on November 2^nd. The team is busy fundraising for the season, having done a car wash, planning a bake sale, gift wrapping presents, and they’re contacting businesses to sponsor our upcoming Tournament on January 11, 2013.
